Nocatee Residents Ring In the New Year With a Chilly Polar Plunge

Jacksonville, FL – January 15, 2010 – Residents of all ages celebrated a new year in the Town of Nocatee with a chilly Polar Plunge at the community’s recently unveiled Splash Water Park. The event, hosted by Nocatee developer The Park Group, offered an exciting first glimpse of the water park prior to the 2010 spring swim season.

At 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, adventure-seeking residents donned their bathing suits and gathered together at Lazy Tides River – the park’s 450-foot lagoon – to christen the Nocatee Splash Water Park and usher in the year 2010. Following the Polar Plunge, residents enjoyed a New Year’s breakfast in the Nocatee Room at Crosswater Hall.

“Some residents watched and many participated in this special event. We are very pleased with the turnout, as well as the enthusiasm our homeowners have shown for the water park,” said Portland Swan, marketing director for The PARC Group. “It was a fun morning and a great way to get together to celebrate two important milestones.”

Steeped in over 100 years of tradition, the Polar Plunge is a popular winter event that takes place each year across the nation. Whether to ring in the New Year or as a unique fundraising effort, the event draws thousands to charge into icy waters for an exhilarating dip. For Nocatee residents, this “Freezin’ for a Reason” marked the official opening of the community’s signature lifestyle amenity – the Splash Water Park.

As the only resident amenity of its kind in Northeast Florida, the water park is located within the Nocatee Community Park. It offers a welcoming Entry Pavilion with designated locker area and Main Check-In.

Rip Tide Slides features the water park’s signature high-speed thrill rides. Anchored by Northeast Florida’s tallest slide tower – 53 feet – these slides of differing heights offer exciting corkscrew turns, twists and slippery slopes for two very distinct ride experiences.

Perfect for kids of all ages, the Lazy Tides River offers 450 feet of aquatic relaxation. Residents and guests can enjoy the more leisurely pace of this slow-moving current while taking in scenery of tropical rock outcroppings and plant life, waterfalls and geysers. A rapid-tide whirlpool is tucked within an intimate side bay. The Lazy Tides River is designed as one-half pool deck and one-half secluded natural setting. Tubes are provided.

Splash Cove, a zero-entry, shallow-access pool designed for Nocatee’s little residents, is an interactive sprayground adorned with water cannons, overhead tipping buckets, small slides, a large sea buoy and a kayak rack. Splash Cove’s maximum depth is 18 inches. This family-friendly fun zone includes a furnished sun deck with shaded and open seating.

Nocatee Splash Water Park includes many great “extras”. The Sun Deck offers concessions, covered and open-air seating and restroom facilities. Reminiscent of a Caribbean beach, the water park includes a tropical sanded area with hammocks and beautiful palms.

In addition to the water park, the Community Park also includes the two-story Crosswater Hall clubhouse. The facility offers a first-floor Nocatee Welcome Center, as well as the top-floor Nocatee Room banquet facility and the Seabreeze Room conference space.

Well equipped for sizeable special events, the Nocatee Room includes a convenient catering kitchen. Alongside Crosswater Hall, the Splash Water Park’s primary event lawn provides a great open-air venue for event guests.

“Crosswater Hall is the place to be for celebrating important milestones,” said Swan. “From an architectural standpoint, it is designed to compliment Northeast Florida’s rich, classical heritage. It’s an impressive venue for any occasion.”

Next to the Splash Water Park’s central event lawn, The Cabana is a terrific gathering place in which to enjoy covered seating and a convenient summer kitchen. This outdoor space is available for private reservation, as it is just steps to the family lagoon and Rip Tide Slides. Not including the formal event lawn, Nocatee Splash Water Park also offers three conveniently located activity lawns.

Within the Community Park, residents and guests have much more recreation to enjoy, including Nocatee’s Fitness Building facilities, two sand volleyball courts, and a separate playground.
